The purpose of the Wagner Theater Program remains the same: to identify, nurture, train, and provide performance opportunities for dramatic talent capable of the Wagnerian repertoire. The aim of the program is to simulate those elements of the theater experience that singers and instrumentalists will encounter when hired in the "real world." By offering the opportunity to work with stage directors, conductors, colleagues, coaches, agents, and administrators, the program combines all aspects of the professional operatic arena in order to provide this valuable experience to its students. The program is part of an ongoing effort to build a festival and training program on the east coast modeled after the plan of Richard Wagner for Bayreuth and the Bayreuth Festival MEISTERKLASSEN, established by his granddaughter, the late Friedelind Wagner, with the permission of her brothers, the late Wieland Wagner and Wolfgang Wagner, current Director of the Bayreuth Festival.
